Uploading Pages

Once the website has been completed, and you are happy with the content, and the way that the links work (you can check this by opening any of the pages in your web browser and clicking the links), then it time to upload the pages onto the internet.

The first thing you need is a program that allows you to transfer the files, this is a called an FTP program. Once again, there is no need to purchase this software. If you go to a website like www.download.com and type in FTP in the search box, you will get a few options to download. I tend to go for the most popular (or downloaded) version.

You will also need the password and login details that are supplied by your web host.

The FTP program will do most of the work! It connects to your site and shows you a list of the pages that are online. The first time you enter it, it will obviously be blank, All you need to do is point to the file of your website on your C drive, and once all the pages are showing in the 'pending transfer file' click transfer.

If you want to make any amendments to your pages, you must do it to the version on your Hard Drive. Once the changes have been made, simply copy that page directly from the source folder and paste it into the FTP file (where you will be asked if you want to replace current file - say yes, and then transfer)

I know this sounds quite complicated but once you have the FTP file open, you will see that it is a simple as moving files between any normal windows folders.
